Just Words® student population

Students in grades 4-12 and adults with decoding and or spelling scores in the 15th - 50th percentile range

Student identification and placement guidelines

Screening and Placement Assessments

  • District Reading Scores
  • Test of Silent Word Reading Fluency (TOSWRF)
  • Word Identification and Spelling Test (WIST)

SCREENING

  1. Identification of students with standardized reading score below 50th percentile
  2. Screening with TOSWRF and WIST Spelling (Use the Secondary Form for grades 6 through adult)  These screening measures can be group administered
  3. Identify Students for Just Words Program
    1. TOSWRF percentile scores between 15 -50%
        and / or
    2. WIST spelling percentile rank between 15-50%

PLACEMENT

Once a student has been identified as qualifying for the JUST WORDS program, then the WIST subtest will be individually administered for class placement.  Students will be assigned to groups/classes using the WIST Fundamental Literacy Ability Index percentile rank:

Group A: 15 - 30%
Group B: 31 - 50%
